In 2025, The Wave: Asheville invited us to look back at Earth from the stars—to feel the Overview Effect, that awe-filled shift astronauts describe when seeing our planet as one luminous, fragile whole.
From that cosmic vantage, we saw the systems that shape life—the explicate order—and watched boundaries dissolve, nations blur, and unity emerge. We remembered our shared responsibility to shape a future that serves all life.
If the Overview revealed the vast outer landscape of connection, the Underview calls us inward—into the implicate order, the living field of consciousness that moves beneath all form.
It is the unseen current that weaves matter and meaning together, the quiet intelligence shaping both the world and our inner lives.
The Underview Effect is the awakening that follows the Overview— a return from orbit to ocean, from the visible to the invisible, from seeing wholeness to embodying it.
